New Resources on Global Health Funding in the President's Budget Request

We've recently released a new Kaiser Family Foundation budget summary of the President’s FY17 budget request, which proposes $8,577 million in funding at USAID and the State Department through the Global Health Programs account, representing an increase of $73 million from final spending levels in FY16. Malaria, maternal and child health, and family planning and reproductive health funding increased in the FY17 request compared to FY16, while funding for global health security, bilateral HIV, and the U.S. contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria remained flat. Funding for tuberculosis, neglected tropical diseases, nutrition, and vulnerable children all declined compared to FY16.

Additionally, the U.S. Global Health Budget Tracker is now updated with new data from the President's budget request. You can use this interactive tool to compare funding levels for different global health program areas, agencies, and initiatives in the just-released President's request to prior years, and check back to track the Congressional appropriations process as it unfolds in the coming months.

Filling the need for trusted information on national health issues, the Kaiser Family Foundation is a nonprofit organization based in Menlo Park, California.
