Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative will add Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin to its network health plans for next year.

The health plans also will include Children’s Hospital’s clinics and specialists.

Families with a child who needed to be treated or seen by a specialist at Children’s Hospital previously incurred the higher cost of going out of network.

Melissa Duffy, chief strategy officer for Common Ground Healthcare, said the cooperative insures relatively few children.

But Children’s Hospital needed to be added to the network because Common Ground Healthcare’s health plans next year will cover only physicians, hospitals and other health care providers who are in-network except for emergency care.

Common Ground Healthcare’s network is tied to Aurora Health Care and to Bellin Health in the Green Bay area.

The health insurer is one of three that will sell health plans next year on the marketplaces set up through the Affordable Care Act in the Milwaukee area.

The other two are Network Health and Children’s Community Health Plan, an affiliate of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
