Trump: ‘Very good chance’ Congress repeals ObamaCare

Trump - Test

President Trump on Wednesday voiced confidence that the latest Republican plan to repeal ObamaCare could become law.

“It has a very good chance,” Trump told reporters when asked if the proposal will pass.

The president said the Senate GOP measure has “47 or 48” votes and claimed that “a lot of” other senators “are looking at it very positively.”

Trump and his team are putting their full weight behind a bill sponsored by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Bill Cassidy (R-La.) as a last-ditch attempt to repeal former President Obama’s signature health-care law.

Republicans need the support of at least 50 senators to pass the bill. In that scenario, Vice President Pence would cast the tie-breaking vote.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) hopes to put the bill on the floor for a vote next week, but currently does not have enough votes to pass it.

Trump said lawmakers will feel compelled to act because ObamaCare is a “train wreck” that “is only getting worse.”

“It’s dysfunctional now,” he said. “At some point the Senate is going to be forced to make a deal. They’re just about at that point right now.”

Trump and GOP leaders are focusing their efforts on three senators from their party who voted against the last GOP ObamaCare repeal bill this summer: John McCain (Ariz.), Susan Collins (Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska).
